Why You Should Think About Taking Your Manager’s Logbook Mobile
– A Letter from the developer and owner of MOD Reports, John Hall
The Manager’s log book has been around for a long time. The coffee ring stains beneath my Star Wars coffee cup is evidence. Somedays I would pick up the logbook and some days … well not so much. And when I did decide to open it to see what happened yesterday in the restaurant it was hit or miss the manager preceding me entered a log. Oh – and if by chance I was gifted with the happenings of yesterday it was usually some scribble that was barely actionable. So there sat our logbook – under my cup of coffee.
Then we graduated to emailing each other at the end of each shift – with some form the person with the most excel experience created – only to be lost in my other 200+ emails I received that day. Oh – and heaven forbid I needed to go back and look up a report to find out when Sally was last late to her shift – what a time suck.
Because I have a natural tendency for order, conformity and structure (slightly self-diagnosed OCD I’m sure) – I decided to sit down and design a program that our teams could better communicate and improve the use of our manager’s logbook.
Use of a cloud-based restaurant / retail logbook needed to be easily prepared, quickly shared, searchable and saved for easy future access right on your mobile device.
Intro… Welcome MOD Reports – (Manager on Duty Report)
(Learning moment—It takes a lot of time to make things simple – we were in design mode for a year)
As a manager of people, communication is at the center of our job description. As an owner, communication is critical to the success of your business; the same way lack of clear concise communication will certainly tank your business.
Our goal when designing MOD Reports was to maintain the simplicity of your logbook while gaining the advantages of mobile technology to improve your team’s accountability, performance and engagement, with the added value of being able to access your Logbook from anywhere, at any time.
And we kept it simple for you: amazingly simple to customize to report exactly what you want, no start-up costs, super simple to use, no heavy training required, or time added to your day. And the best part is its super affordable (less than a dollar a day). We called this next generation of the Manager’s Logbook, “MOD Reports.
